2013 Nissan Juke-R

On a trip to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009, Herry Hardcastle, vice president of Design and Development of Nissan vehicles and Paul Wilcox, now Vice-President of Sales and Marketing of the brand in Europe, raised the possibility of create the Juke R.

The work began just after the onset of the Juke at Geneva Motor Show 2010. Nissan was when the company consulted with RML, a racing team and engineering property of ex-pilot Ray Mallock, the ability to "invent something" to do more "exciting" to the newly launched Juke.

RML and Nissan had collaborated with the creation of the Super Micra Micra R-one of the previous generation V6 engine with 350 Z-center position and was responsible for the preparation of the Nissan Primera won the British Championship title passenger.

In RML, in collaboration with the Nissan Technical Centre in Britain, managed to install the mechanics of the GT-R on the chassis of a Juke crossover and create the fastest and most athletic ever built. The CV 485 GT-R available in the first generation Juke R results in a unique combination. The history of this building is exciting and the result, we now have in our hands to you, too.

22 weeks had time Mallock men to realize the project two Nissan executives were "invented" as they traveled. And it was not easy to carry out the "cut and paste" to create what is now the Juke-R.

The first step was made when it was a GT-R to RML and started editing. Was cut into two 25 cm were removed. It also cut the rear wheel arches and moved forward complete rear axle. Then he produced a shorter shafts and a new axle shafts for four wheel drive system, which stood in the place of the originals, before that GT-R "weird" to be taken to a test track for evaluate its performance.

After verifying their effectiveness, we proceeded to create the Juke-R, rather, the only two Juke-R (one with right hand drive and one on the left), which existed until recent days worldwide (now There are already three because they delivered the first production unit on request only fifteen days ago), and who became world attraction wherever he went after his presentation in Dubai.

To do this, the standard Juke doors were removed, grille, hood and tailgate. Then he removed the engine, axles, suspension and the whole interior. Separately installed a chassis constructed as a tubular safety cage, identical to those used in competition, to increase the rigidity of the structure and then the suspension is adapted GT-R, front deformable parallelogram, and multilink behind the bearings and transmission, and prepared to "drop" the engine. It was not easy, of course.

Get great space for mounting the turbo V6 GT-R in the position at which a compact four-cylinder was complex. And it was also position the propeller cooling and ventilation. In fact, it was the most complicated existence Mallock's men. But they did. Of course, with almost half under the dash engine ...

The hard work on the technical side had to follow the same line on the inside. So it was decided that, as far as possible, be maintained controls and instrumentation of the GT-R. In the cockpit include the roll bar and the two baquets with five-point harness racing, giving the counterpoint to the controls and touch screen 7-inch standard riding the GT-R.

The center console of the Juke-the-houses the gear lever and the start button. It retains the dual zone climate control and a CD radio with AUX connections, USB and iPod. Despite being a car made "by hand," maintains the access system with smart key, advanced traction control system and management of the suspension with three modes with electronically controlled hardness.

Between them the two gaps remain baquets for Juke standard drinks and a power of 12 volts. The back is completely "empty" to make room for the ROPS bars. Juke-R, therefore, is a two-seater. The driving position is low from the bucket and steering wheel with shift paddles, is a "tad" high, although that position is common in cars "racing".

After sitting inside "on stand" we got out of it and as we talked with officials from Nissan to finalize the details of the test, we look at its spectacular appearance in highlighting the flared wheel arches, the beautiful rims 20 ", the lower front air dam, rear diffuser, the two exhaust outlets and the two rear wings placed on the gate. The truth is that it looks impressive, very aggressive and very racing.

Finally we set off. And we did it in the Parcmotor circuit, in which we tested the Juke-R where it operates best.

We have the privilege of being the only Spanish media that has proven in circuit, so we are proud to explain it. The first few laps were served to see how he behaved this "apparatus" of Nissan.

The truth is that while we do not seek the limits, the reactions were very predictable and we could say that even soft. Braking seemed fantastic, also steering feel, engine response and brutal, even though we had not yet "stepped on a sack." Gradually we were taking her confidence and increasing the pace and immediately intuit how their behavior would be going light.

Definitely a radical car, with plenty of power and is left "fondling" but to some extent. Going to the limit can not be easy. It is a short drive away, with almost 500 hp and very "bad blood" if you will allow me the expression. In slow corners is fantastic. It has a brake that allows you to get "into the kitchen" marches down to start the turn with the nose facing well thanks in part to a very precise steering.

All-wheel drive helps greatly to make it more effective and "easy" to drive when we go light, but the electronic controls are really more work. Without them, things get complicated. In fast turns, as often happens with cars "short" (is 27 cm less than the battle that GT-R), the reactions are more radical and we must be vigilant, especially mid-corner out. There, in addition to applying power cornering speed to relocate, we can get reactions will "work" to maintain and preserve the path back into place.

The suspensions are a moron that let you turn right very flat, however, found it needed more brake at hydraulic extension to avoid some rebounds that occurred in certain supports.

The conclusion is simple: I want one! Nissan has managed to make a mega-exclusive car with incredible performance. It is demanding a vehicle driving in the limit but rather carried away if we do more calmly. Anyway, in our opinion, do not think anyone can get one for walking ...

What had to be a simple showcar has become a reality. During his performance at the 24 Hours of Dubai, Nissan came to receive bids for the concept in the street and thought it was not about to disappoint those fans. So, with three strong reservations on the table, made a commitment to build a limited edition Juke-R.

A few days ago it has delivered the first production unit has been improved in detail finishes and exterior aesthetics and has the 3.8-liter biturbo engine and 545 hp! (the one with the current GT-R). Yes, the price is also unique because if you want one of those production units will have to pay € 500,000. And no, I have not chopped any extra zero!
