Peugeot 208 1.6 e-HDI 92 CV

The French began to market a few months ago, more precisely in April, the replacement for the 207. Assuming that each passing generation saw the utility increased its exterior dimensions, this time the surprise was seeing them reduced. The Peugeot 208 is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, but its interior is better worked and increases the feeling of space for passengers. With these solutions and an exterior design of many more modern appearance, the new 208 shows their cards to regain leadership in the segment B that had gotten years ago. We tested the diesel version with the 1.6 liter e-HDI 92 hp, a propeller that will delight the prospective buyer looking for a good response both in performance and consumption.

With dimensions of 3.9 meters long, 1.7 wide and 1.4 high, the 208 offers a modern air body with futuristic features in its design. The most characteristic feature of the front is the huge oversized grille that gives it a strong personality. In front set reinforced with slimmer headlights and a second lower air intake more elongated. The Peugeot 208 is fruit of a new development concept Peugeot engineers. This strategy has dubbed the regeneration and tries to translate the new aesthetic codes of the brand in a more compact and lightweight vehicle. The side view shows a rounded silhouette, with a fairly short overhangs. The upward trend of the waist along with the slight fall from the ceiling to provide styling and dynamic whole. The rear light clusters, as a "boomerang" provide continuity from the side to the rear, where stands a fairly robust.

It would be easy to think that given the smaller size of the body in its interior sin. The truth is that Peugeot's designers have managed to increase the usable space and functionality of the 207 and plotted on this little 208. The dashboard is made especially for hard plastics. They have a nice feel and the level of finish is pretty good. Redesigned the concept of the cockpit with the contribution of a box of watches in a higher position. This solution provides barely display indicators separate from the road. It has a wheel design with a diameter small enough that adopts a somewhat oval shape. The front seats provide a sporty touch thanks to its prominent lateral wings that resemble those of a "baket" that ensure optimal hold the driver and passenger. A large touchscreen chairs atop the center console. It comes equipped as standard from the second trim level. It shows different information of the vehicle and of course, the navigator, radio or audio playback. The instrumentation has been simplified so that there is little more than the climate control buttons, the "warnings" or the central locking. The various storage compartments distributed throughout the cabin, amply fulfilled its function. We should mention that those located in the doors we have found that they are in a rather advanced position, which hinders their use. Peugeot says that, thanks to a more compact backrests on the front seats, the rear seat passengers can enjoy additional 5 inches of legroom. A server, with its nearly six-foot wanted to check: If it is true that the rear seats are not as narrow as in the previous version, but I recommend to tall people sit in the best seat "passenger". The boot capacity has been increased to 285 liters, 15 more than the 207.

Our test unit fitted to the efficient mechanical diesel 1.6 e-HDI with an output of 92 hp. This four-cylinder engine delivers a maximum torque of 230 Nm from a fairly low rev range. It is associated with a gearbox 5-speed manual, with a somewhat shorter developments. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.9 seconds at Peugeot, but would be fine for a sixth gear highway relief. Even so, this engine approves an average consumption of 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers, a figure not too disparate to which we have obtained in our test: 4.3 l/100 km. In the front axle mounts a set of pseudo-McPherson suspensions, while in the rear is fitted with a torsion beam axle. They have installed ventilated disc brakes front and rear discs.

Compared to 207, it moves with much more ease and stability. This is due to a significant decrease of the total weight of the vehicle, a chassis tuning and adjusting firm suspensions moron. The 1.6-liter engine and 92 horses surprised by the ease with which the car moves. Push in a fairly linear from low revs and allows enough stretch before running gears "dead". The address has been revised to the point where we can consider it as one of the strengths in driving the 208. It is precisely when traveling at high speeds and when parking your steering maneuver allows you to do without the slightest effort.

Monta ABS system with electronic brake force distribution, emergency brake assist, automatic hazard lights in the event of sharp deceleration and ESP stability control. Inside, the Peugeot 208 is equipped as standard with front airbags, switchable passenger airbag, thorax front side airbags, and curtain airbags. Besides ISOFIX and pyrotechnic front seat belts with load limiters.

With a bold design and exterior dimensions that are more reminiscent of those 205 or 206, the French brand aims to position the 208 at the top, as the new blockbuster. For nothing will be easy, models from the likes of the Seat Ibiza, Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio, Opel Corsa, Volkswagen Polo, etc ... are willing to stop them. Peugeot offers its model with a starting price of around 12,000 euros in its basic version of gasoline, a fairly reasonable price, but the best equipped and exceed 15,000 euros. More interior space and boot, good finishes in the cabin and a meticulous design abroad. These are the cards that plays the new Peugeot 208. Winning cards?? Possibly
